Akeem O. BELLO

Akeem is currently a PhD candidate in Peace and Security Studies at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. He holds a Master in Peace and Security Studies from the Institute of Peace, Security and Governance of the Ekiti State University. His bachelor’s degree is in Hausa and Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria. He lectures at the department of political science, College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Nigeria. He is presently a research associate on exchange scholar programme with the International Center for Information Technology and Development, Southern University, Baton Rouge. He is also a visiting research scholar at the International Center for Information Technology and Development, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. He is a fellow of the French Institute for Research in Africa, Ibadan, Nigeria. His researches are focused on terrorism, urban violence, Governance and Security of cultural heritages. He has participated in conferences within and outside Nigeria. He has published in journals and contributed to book chapters. His doctoral research is focused on the security challenges posed by insurgents to cultural heritage sites, using Timbuktu, Mali as a case study. This innovative work borders on linking security studies with heritage studies. Given the primacy of heritage to humanity and the threats to them by ‘new war’ armies, this study promises to be a fresh insight into a trending global challenge.
